Piss Shack Project
The Story of the Piss Shack Project
I felt the story of the Piss Shack has gotten long enough it needed telling.
When Bill bought Croc Cove, it had a 1983 GoldenWest single wide mobile home installed on the property (as I am writing this, it is still there). The mobile smells like PISS. I don't mean just a little pee smell, no it smells as if it is MADE OF PISS. You literally can't spend 5 mins in there before you are driven outside by the smell. There is also a lot of damage that can be seen in the Piss Shack Project photo section in the Media section.
Bill and I (Kass) had figured we'd just get a a few friends to help us demolish the Piss Shack. It would cost a few thousand for the dumpster, $700 in environmental survey, and $57 for permitting. But I looked on craigslist for people wanting to buy mobile homes in order to just give it to someone. Our first contact was excited to get a free mobile and wondered when he could have the title to get it off the property. This begins the dealing with Randy.
In order to make this story go by a little faster, let me just tell you we'd been out to Croc Cove a bunch. Measuring things, making plans, etc. We always offered Randy a chance to come out and take a look while we were there. We had to tell Randy that Bill was buying it but hadn't closed yet. Bill wouldn't have the title till then. On the day of closing Randy asked if we had the title. I understand that as I also would want to be assured of a clear title. I told him we'd likely have it soon, however it was the days of the 2022 Ice Storm and we were not going out to get it. Randy asked about it a few more times in the next few days. We then went out, got the title, keys, and removal permit. Randy seemed pretty happy. He wanted us to meet him in Olympia on the way home so he could have the title so he could "get that mobile out as soon as possible". I am always leary of such things and said "Bill will sign that over to you as it is leaving the property". Randy understood and that was cool. So that day Bill, Darrell, Danny, and I set to unhooking the mobile from the utilities. We removed the skirting on the trailer and figured out how to remove the electrical, cap the sewer, cap the water, ETC. While Darrell was checking out the sewer Danny decided to make use of the facilities as he is want to do (this man makes it a point to use your bathroom on any new place before you do) and that is how we found out there was a leak in the sewer the whole time. On our way home Randy asked if we had left it open so he could check it out. No, we didn't.
We had set the date of 1/2/23 to go out and meet Randy to have the mobile removed and Randy agreed to have his mover there. Well left early so we could trim some tree limbs that would be in the way... we needn't have done so. Halfway there we get another text from Randy. Randy says "I've been calling my mover but am not getting my calls returned. As a backup I have a friend coming to look at it. Because I recently had some toes amputated and my Parents are 90 and need my help in Walla Walla, I will be selling the mobile that you guys gave to me, to my friend who had a tree fall on his current single wide, for $2000"
We were like "That's odd, but whatever you want to charge your friend is none of our business" and Bill, Darrell, Mycol, and I got to trimming limbs until lunchtime. When we got back from Lunch a 70ish ear old couple was in the mobile home checking it out (we had left it open for them). She looked a bit miffed. I said "Yeah I told Randy it was rough and smelly" and she was like "It's really rough". We got to talking about it and they asked how I knew Randy. I told them none of us know Randy we just found him on craigslist and told them we don't care who takes the thing, just whomever gets it removed gets the title free and clear. We asked how they know Randy and here is the kicker... they don't. They answered a craigslist add (that is still up at the time of me writing this HERE) and Randy said that he had bought a mobile off of his buddy for $2500 and was willing to sell it to them for $1750 because he needed the money. It all fell into place. Randy was using all of the pictures he was getting from us to sell a mobile he never owned. That's also why he wanted the title so bad and so quick, because he wanted to have something legal to sell.
We talked to the couple quite a bit after that. They told Randy they were not interested and I told Randy I found anouther buyer. This did anger Randy because he responded "But you gave it to me how does that work?" No Randy, it was never yours. The couple has agreed to have it removed within 10 days and will have their mover out for a survey sometime soon. They also don't get a title until it is off the property. It always feels nice putting a face and a handshake to your dealings though and it feels great stopping a hustler from taking advantage of an old couple.
This was yesterday 1/2/23 and I'll update this story as needed.
BTW the guy getting the trailer is a Hypnotist from Graham. His website is JERRYHARRIS.NET
PISS SHACK UPDATE ~ Good Bye Piss Shack
10 days turned into 3 months. Jerry (whom we have renamed Hypno Dancer after the Little Big song) had one hell of a time getting the permits and the paperwork from all of the counties for removal of the piss shack.
But it is finally gone!
